Stage of Learning Updates
December 2024
What an incredible year it has been in our P-2 classrooms!
As we come to the end of the school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate the growth and achievements of all our students. This year, your children have blossomed in so many wonderful ways—academically, socially, and emotionally—and we couldn’t be prouder of them!
Our young learners have made tremendous strides in their academic journey. In reading, we’ve seen a strong love for books grow as students mastered new letter sounds, built their vocabulary, and began reading with confidence. In math, children have developed their number sense, learning to count, add, subtract, and explore shapes in exciting and hands-on ways.
We’ve also focused on building strong social skills and emotional intelligence. Our students have learned how to express their feelings, solve problems with their friends, and work together as a team. It has been wonderful to see them celebrate each other’s successes and learn to navigate challenges with resilience.
While all this learning is going on, our transition program has begun! Preps have had the opportunity to spend some time with the grade 1/2 classes, getting to know students as well as teachers. It has been fantastic to see how well they have taken to these transition sessions with most students asking when they are going back to see their new friends!
The state-wide transition day is Tuesday the 10th, where our grade 2 students will be meeting new friends and teachers in grade 3!
As the end of term is approaching we have 2 special events our students are very excited for!
Over the next few weeks our P-2 students will participate in their week-long swimming program. Throughout the week, students will have the chance to participate in a variety of activities designed to showcase their skills. We also have our Christmas lunch, where students get to eat lots of yummy food and celebrate the end of a fantastic year.
Thank you for your support throughout this wonderful year. We are so proud of all our students, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to shine in the years to come!

Year 8 Graduation Speeches
Good evening, teachers, parents, family members, and, most importantly, Year 8 graduates.
Year 8 graduates from across the College are celebrating their achievements, their hard work and growth. This marks the end of one chapter in our journey and the start of another as we prepare for the opportunities and challenges a Year 9 faces. The graduates have shown incredible progress, embracing the core values of the school persistence, growth, kindness, and collaboration.
Peacock values teamwork and community growth. They have developed an Athletic House System, where four houses compete in friendly competitions and activities. House points are earned through positive contributions, and the winning house is determined by tallying up points. The system fosters teamwork, responsibility, and pride, promoting a positive environment for the entire Peacock community.
The success of the students is credited to the unconditional support and dedication of the people who have helped them every step of the way. Teachers and parents are praised for their tireless efforts in shaping young minds, fostering curiosity, and their resilience.
Congratulations to the Year 8 graduates on our achievements so far and for the person they are becoming. As they prepare to embark on the next stage of their educational journey. Year 9 holds new challenges, opportunities, and experiences that will shape us all in amazing ways and that will help us become our own person.

Co-Curricular Report
As we get closer to the end of the year we have a number of exciting events occurring particularly for our year 8 students as they get ready to transition to Goldsworthy. One of these is the Step Up week occurring from Monday the 2nd of December to Friday the 6th of December. On the Wednesday of this week the students will enjoy a visit to Luna Park where they have been asked to please bring a hat and water bottle particularly if it is a hot day. This week has a focus on getting students prepared for life as a year 9 student at Goldsworthy allowing them to feel comfortable with the learning spaces and teaching staff that will support them through the year.
Another of the events that was enjoyed by students, parents and staff on Thursday the 28th of November was Year 8 Graduation. It was a great celebration of the time the Year 8 students have spent at our junior campuses and an opportunity for everyone to reflect on the growth the kids have made over their time so far at Northern Bay College. We look forward to hearing about their time moving forward at the Goldsworthy Campus next year.
Each Campus will also be having a special roast lunch with the kids to celebrate the end of the year. These are occurring over different days over the final few weeks for each campus so the kids will not need any lunch on that particular day. Keep an eye out from your campus’s Xuno feed for when this is happening.

Curriculum Program Report
Numeracy
Students worked hard to finish a group of tasks that involved creating rosters and doing payroll for an imaginary business. They calculated pay and tax rates and gained a good understanding of the numeracy skills needed to be a small business owner with employees to manage.
The senior students finished the year designing their initials on a grid and testing using sheets, The next task involved writing instructions to navigate the initials which could also be tested using scratch software, below is a couple of sample initials having been tested on scratch.
Literacy Inquiry
Students in Enterprise Café finished the year strong as they took over all aspects of the business operations. They cooked multiple products for sale, ran the coffee van, shopped for ingredients, did stocktakes and kept financial records. It was great to see their problem-solving, teamwork and leadership skills develop throughout the year to the point where they could handle any challenge to smooth café operations.

Program Prep Day
An extended thank you goes to all the careers, guardians and parents who attended the program preparation day on Friday the 29th of November. It was great to see students come through and confirm their course for next year as well as showing off the work they have completed across the year or within Step Up.
Grad Dinner
On Wednesday the 27th of November we celebrated the graduating class of 2024 in style with a masquerade ball at the Shell Club. The night was filled with lots of laughter, celebration and dancing. It was a great night to commemorate the success that the 2024 class have had with not only their peers but their parents, guardians and staff, all of whom have helped them along their schooling journey.
Platinum Builders Excursion
