December 2024

Supporting all Learners

At NBC, we take pride in having a highly skilled and diverse Wellbeing and Inclusion Team dedicated to ensuring all students succeed in their education.

By identifying students' strengths, capabilities, and interests, and consulting with allied health professionals, we can tailor the curriculum to make it engaging and accessible for every learner.

During 2024 our Inclusive Practices team grew to now include Inclusion Support Coordinators, Learning Adjustment Specialists, and Mental Health Wellbeing Leaders. This team works closely with teachers and students to determine appropriate adjustments. These adjustments help ensure that students with disabilities and additional learning needs can fully participate in their education and achieve success.

A reasonable adjustment refers to a measure or action that allows a student with a learning difficulty and/or disability to participate in education on equal terms with their peers. Adjustments may be made in various areas, including:

  • The classroom
  • The schoolyard
  • Excursions and camps
  • School facilities

Check out some examples of adjustments and supports that have helped our students this year.

Engaged Play

We sat down with Olivia Fielding in Grade 3 at the Hendy Campus to hear how Engaged Play has helped her.

How does Engaged Play help me?

Why do I like Engaged Play?

How does Engaged Play help others?

What else do I like about school?

Reasonable Adjustments

Across all campuses, reasonable adjustments are made to support students with their learning. We spoke to some students about how the College has made adjustments for them.

Emiley Cramp explains how her tick chart helps her to stay in class and remain focussed.
Georgia Ovens and Lola Thomas chat about their experiences with the Calm Tent.
Zen Furness explains how Ear Muffs help him in the class room.
Ellcie Sleight talks about fidget tools.
Casey Clarke discussions therapy bands, cushions and fidget tools.
