From the Head of the Junior School
I would like to congratulate the two newly elected School Captains for 2025 – Hugo Courtemanche and Clare Tierney. These students are held in very high regard from their peers and they will do an excellent job leading students in the Junior School. There are a few more positions to be filled and announced next week. I am proud of all students who put themselves forward to lead.
Congratulations to the wonderful team of parents from Springwood and Wentworth Falls who hosted the most magnificent Colour Fun Run this week. It was outstanding! Our P&F groups are absolutely brilliant – committed, enthusiastic, organized and tireless (they might disagree with the last adjective!). I’d like to thank specifically Jane Micsovic-Weatley and Sarah and Mark Rogers for their leadership of these teams. Their ability to galvanise parents to help out is fantastic.
Our P&F association have funded a number of projects this year including the outfitting of the atelier and STEAM wall at Springwood, bonus money for classroom projects, the mud kitchen and sports equipment at Wentworth Falls and more. We will be making continued improvements to our play spaces at both Junior School campuses, all thanks to the efforts of so many parents. It’s greatly appreciated.
Our parents have also been busy serving the school, at our recent Orientation Days being an example. Our current parents are so supportive of welcoming new families and helping them settle. Some of our new P&F worker bees are families that have been welcomed to our school just this year. I’d encourage everyone to get involved in some small way when they can – our P&F really do help build community.

Junior School Basketball Report
Term 4, Week 5
BMGS Stars played against the number one team on the ladder, the Dribblers. Unfortunately, a victory was not grasped on this occasion but it was fabulous to see some flow with the team as they were able to dribble, pass and score on more than one occasion. Our goal scorers were Hugo Courtemanche with 4 points, Alexander Kinnear with 2 and Mason Barnett with 2.
The team continues to work on correct dribbling techniques to avoid carrying the ball, travelling and shooting. Being in the Under 12s is a big step up but the boys are resilient and determined to get their first win under their belts.
The BMGS Avengers welcomed back Henry Burrell as their coach. He continues to work on the main basketball skills in training - strong power passes, dribbling and shooting. The team were enthusiastic in training and enjoyed all the drills.
I was at their ‘game’ session at Blaxland and was happy to see some really strong dribbling, passing and shooting. The team greatly enjoyed their ‘mini’ half-court games and put into practice the skills from the training session. Atticus Richardson, Spencer Williamson and Austin Skinner were able to score for their teams to keep them on the court for long periods of time because if your team does not score, you are the first team subbed off for the other team on the bench.
Term 4, Week 6
BMGS Stars played against the Hoopers, who are two places above them on the ladder. The boys worked solidly as a team and made a lot less errors to secure more time with the ball. They proudly earned their first win for the Summer season! Unfortunately, Hugo Courtemanche and Jari Povelsen were absent so they were not able to be part of the victory but the rest of the team soaked it up. The smiles were wide and we were all very excited to have our first win under our belts. Our goal scorers were Nixon Van Swieten, Alexander Kinnear, Michael Lynch, Sebastian Olmos and Mason Barnett.
The BMGS Avengers continue to work on the main basketball skills in training with the Springwood Scorchers, with Henry noting skills to work on in his training session. He noticed improvement with their skills and how the team is working hard to dribble the ball correctly and learning to position themselves to make a good pass. The team were enthusiastic in training and enjoyed all the drills.
The team greatly enjoyed their ‘mini’ half-court games and put into practice the skills from the training session. Atticus Richardson, Spencer Williamson and Austin Skinner were able to score for their teams and Sophia Delaney scored her first basket for the season. Congratulations Sophia!
