Art

Foundation students have been learning about shapes in art. They began by imagining their dream houses, drawing pictures of exciting spaces in their dream house windows such as garden rooms, a ball pit, a disco room, then crafted it using a paper bag to make it 3D. They then created opening window shutters, doors, and a roof. Students learned about geometric shapes and used these shapes to create a robot picture. They drew geomteric shapes on foil and cardstock before assembling it to create their robot design.

Grade 1 and 2 students have focused on developing their skills in weaving and crafting. They practiced their weaving techniques by creating woven butterflies using craft sticks, yarn, beads, and pipe cleaners. Students have been introduced to the cultural tradition of Guatemalan "Worry Dolls". They have begun creating their own worry dolls using pipe cleaners, yarn, and beads, applying techniques such as bending, twisting, and folding to shape the dolls.

Grade 3 and 4 students have been creating opal inspired collages. They explored the significance of opals in Australia and contrasted opal inspired artwork by Australian artists Jenny Kee and Dianne Dilanro. Students then created painted paper collages, using a technique where they scraped paint across paper with cardboard to mimic the colours and patterns of opals. Glitter was added to enhance the opalescent effect.  Students explored how organic shapes are found in nature and used their understanding to form their opal shapes for their final design.

Grade 5 and 6 students have been developing their weaving skills and applying this technique to create their own yarn bowls. Students learned how to create a structure by dividing the plate into an odd number sections for weaving. Using their paper plates as a base, students have carefully threaded yarn in and out to form the sides of their bowls. They then carefully created the base of their yarn bowls by applying glue and winding yarn in a spiral pattern form the inside base of their bowls.
