We’re already in Week 6 of Term 4, and it’s incredible to see how much progress our Year 5/6 students have made. With the year quickly coming to an end, our focus is on reinforcing core skills, preparing for upcoming assessments, and celebrating the students’ hard work and growth. Here’s a look at what’s been happening and what’s coming up!
Our poetry unit has inspired students to explore free verse and experiment with descriptive language, imagery, and rhythm. The students each wrote a free verse poem based on topics that resonated with them, ranging from nature and family to hobbies and reflections on time. They’ve been learning to refine their work by adding sensory details, metaphor, and expressive language.
Our current math focus is on angles and their relationships. Students have been identifying complementary, supplementary, and vertically opposite angles, applying these concepts to solve for unknown angles in various geometric scenarios. This work builds critical thinking skills and helps students see the interconnectedness of math concepts. We’re excited to see how confidently they’ve approached these challenges and look forward to further problem-solving activities as the term progresses.
This term’s inquiry project is all about understanding the environment and how our actions affect it. Students have been investigating local and global environmental issues and brainstorming solutions to reduce waste and promote sustainability in our community using the UN Sustainable Goals.
