Final Date Extension: Project Compassion - Class Challenge

Some students are still completing fundraisers for Project Compassion, so we will extend the deadline for the Class Challenge until this Sunday (5th May) - the links are below. Through the hard work of the RE/School Parliament Student Leaders selling Zooper Doopers in Term 1, combined with all the other fundraising completed by OHR Students - the total raised is edging towards $3,000 which is an amazing effort. Once we have confirmed which classes have reached their fundraising target we will let you know in the newsletter of the teachers that will be getting drenched with icy cold water. It will definitely be at 3.15pm so the whole school community can watch.

A snapshot of RE Learning in Prep HW

This term in RE we are learning about The Holy Family.

 As we prepare to celebrate the special women in our lives we remember Mary the Mother of Jesus.

We have been looking at artists impressions of Mary and we came up with some wonderings about her;

I wonder what Mary looked like?

I wonder how Mary showed her love for Jesus?

I wonder how we can walk with Mary?

I wonder how Mary felt when Jesus dies?

I wonder how Mary felt when Jesus rose from the dead?

I wonder what Mary and my Mum have in common?

We are learning a special Prayer for our Families.

You may wish to find a quiet moment and pray it with your family.

May God bless us and keep us.

May God's face shine on us.

May God be good to us.

May God look kindly on us

and give us peace.

Amen

Sunday Gospel

The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘As the Father has loved me,

so I have loved you.

Remain in my love.

If you keep my commandments

you will remain in my love,

just as I have kept my Father's commandments

and remain in his love.

I have told you this

so that my own joy may be in you

and your joy be complete.

This is my commandment:

love one another,

as I have loved you.

A man can have no greater love

than to lay down his life for his friends.

You are my friends,

if you do what I command you,

I shall not call you servants any more,

because a servant does not know

his master’s business;

I call you friends,

because I have made known to you

everything I have learnt from my Father.

You did not choose me,

no, I chose you;

and I commissioned you

to go out and to bear fruit,

fruit that will last;

and then the Father will give you

anything you ask him in my name.

What I command you

is to love one another.’

Discussion Questions

1. Who are the people you love?

2. How do you show you love them?

3. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to love each other as he loves us. How can we love others like Jesus loves us?

4. We can love others by putting other people’s needs before our own. In what ways can we put others’ needs before our own needs?

We pray that we will show love for each other as Jesus loves us.
