Year 7 information Night

The Year 7 Information Evening was held at Kildare Campus last Thursday, and what a night it was!  More than 600 welcome visitors experienced our wonderful College campus, and explored the Kildare Library, which provided a fantastic space for viewing and discussion. Many visitors were impressed with the Library’s amazing “Welcome” display that featured a Harry Potter Woodlands theme. The Library team wanted to showcase our amazing book collections with a particular focus on the Fantasy Genre, as we know a lot of our young readers are interested in engaging with fun, exciting and creative texts within this collection. We welcome all of our students to explore all the benefits and experience the enjoyment that reading has to offer!

Mental Health May

We are busy preparing Mental Health Awareness in the Library this week asking the very important question, "What's On Your Mind?"

To promote Mental Health Awareness for May, students will be provided Ribbons and Head Silhouette activities to be collected at the Kildare Library Counter.

The idea is that students will colour in their ribbons green and hashtag words that mean Mental Health Awareness to them. The Head Silhouette's or "Brain Explosions" will be how students can capture what's on their mind in a creative and explorative way.

Once completed, all Ribbons & Head Silhouette's will be signed by the student and returned to Library Staff to then be placed onto the Art Wall Display with the incentive to capture and motivate Mental Health Awareness for all students and staff.

Both of our wonderful campuses have a range of ‘self help’ books which encompass issues surrounding mental health and provide strategies on how people can make adjustments and improvements to their happiness and wellbeing. Ask our friendly librarians for more information or where to find these.

Recommendation of the Week!

Have you checked out our recommendation wall at Kildare Library? This week we had the pleasure of inviting our amazing teacher Ms Tutty to share with us her chosen book to recommend to the community. The book Ms Tutty selected is a beautiful scripted young adult picture book, entitled

Common Wealth by Gregg Dreise.

Common Wealth, with its impactful and compelling title, focuses on important issues dividing First Nation’s People from the rest of the population. It is a passionate yet peaceful plea for unity and promotes the important message of moving forward together as a nation. The illustrations are a breathtaking representation of oppression, reconciliation, and hope. The complex visual statements made in Dreise's vibrant, traditional Aboriginal style provide a perfect platform for reflection, enhancing the impact of this powerful slam poetry text.

Exploring the important issues of the national flag, taught history, and the wording of our national anthem, Dreise expresses his thoughts with acceptance and understanding, and without creating division.
