Year 5/6

Asombrosos Brillantes

First Week Back...

Our students have hit the ground running in the senior school area and have had a fantastic first week back!

In Literacy, students have begun their novel study on Roald Dahl's autobiographical tale 'Boy'.  It's been super interesting exploring the text's archaic vocabulary whilst learning about the author's early life. The students are engaging really well.

In Inquiry, we have continued with Vanessa Hamilton's Sexuality Education program but have shifted our focus to the very important topic of consent. Once again, we are proud of students and how they conduct themselves in these sessions, approaching the learning with positivity, curiosity, and maturity.

In addition, we have been continuing within the Respectful Relationships Unit about HELP: Students noted names of whom they can ask for help, who they have helped and who has helped them lately, then wrote the names in hands and stars . These are displayed around the class.

At the end of term 1, we celebrated Uruguay during our cultural week. We continued in week 1 with the history of Uruguay by creating a timeline. Students were very creative, and we hope to add more county timelines as we continue this year.

 Reminders:

  • Parliament Excursion: Payments and permissions on Sentral for our excursion in week 7
  • Transitions forms: Grade 6 transition forms are due by Friday, the 10th of May.

What's coming up.....

  • The team has begun thinking about our end-of-year celebrations for our grade 6 graduates. Communications will be sent out shortly to grade 6 parents regarding the development of a graduation committee and arranging baby photos for our 2024 Yearbook.
