Art & Technology News

This term continues to be very productive and creative in our Art rooms.

Year 8 students have been working on developing their skills in working with clay.

They have designed a hybrid animal and are currently sculpting them in Earthenware clay.

When completed and dried, they will be fired in the kiln and then glazed and re-fired. Lots of creativity has gone into these original designs!

The Year 10 class has been working on a unit of Botanical Drawing with Ms Chan, one of our visiting Pre-Service teachers.   The students have been very focused, and their skills are developing well.

The results have been quite impressive! The unit has included detailed drawings of leaves, and the latest lesson focused on tonal renderings of carrots, with some students extending this task to a watercolour painting also, building on the skills developed in a previous unit of work.

Top Design Exhibition - Melbourne Museum

Melbourne Museum, is currently hosting the Top Design Exhibition, our students from Year 11 and Year 12 Visual Communication Design class were lucky enough to visit.

The exhibition comprised the best of last years’ VCE Design students, including a robotic hand lost of building and environment design; as well as media short films, graphic novels, product and fashion design.

Students were inspired by the variety of work as well as the general setting at the Museum with the new T-Rex skeleton on display.

For lunch, we took a tram down to Federation Square and fed the seagulls, looked through the old and new masterpieces at the gallery and then had a quick look around the interactive displays at ACMI.

Overall, a great day out, exploring the city and some of its art and design offering.

Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI)

The Year 11 and 12 students had an immersive experience at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI). This excursion was a great experience for our senior students that helped them deepen their understanding of media presented and how it has a profound impact on our lives.

The pinnacle of our excursion was the Top Screen screening and folio viewing. Top Screen is a showcase of the 2023 VCE students’ short films.

Our students felt so inspired and got many ideas from what they could make for their final products, to sheer enjoyment and appreciation of great pieces from students all over the state.

The folio viewing involved the process of making those watched short films. This helped our students understand how much background work goes into making a piece, the thought process of adding every little detail and the reason behind it.

The students also had the opportunity to explore The Story of the Moving Image exhibition. This interactive experience started off with ancient media all the way to nowadays movie sets.

The exhibition went through time, around the globe and jumped into culture and art. Our students loved the different types of media to explore and spent time reading and immersing themselves into the creation of media and beyond.

It was an absolute pleasure taking our VCE students to ACMI and they had an absolute blast!
