Early Learning Centre

At the end of each Nature Play session we practice Dadirri. We take time to be still and listen to the earth and environment that surrounds us. We give thanks for all that is given to us.

ELC is so lucky to have a dance lesson each week with Jess. As you can see there is full participation in these warm-up activities.

Kinder

In Kinder we have been enjoying a range of texts as part of our Literacy learning. Last week, the students enjoyed exploring the character in the story 'Splat the Cat'. A story about a cat who woke up feeling worried and nervous about his first day of Cat School. After a great first day, he woke up the following morning feeling very excited!

This week, Kinder shared their artwork of Splat the Cat with the Early Years students and teachers during our first Early Years Assembly.

Prep

The Prep students have hit the ground running in Term 2. A highlight has been our participation in Field Day and our first session of Nature Play. The girls did a wonderful job completing the course and had lots of fun joining in the activities. We have been busy learners in the classroom and are proud of our writing skills. We are starting to write our ideas in short sentences. We are also proud of how we write our numbers up to 20. In Science, we have been learning about our 5 main senses and how a scientist uses them to learn and explore the world.

Year One

Term 2 is off to a great start! We loved running in our race at Field Day this week, cheering each other on and watching everyone in the school put in their best effort.

In our InitiaLit lessons, we have been learning how to read, write and spell English words. Every day we do some phonemic awareness which helps us identify all the sounds in words and how words are put together. We also do a review of the diagraphs we are learning. A diagraph is two letters that make one sound, like ‘ed.’

Did you know that the letter ‘a’ has five sounds! For example, it says it’s fifth sound ‘o’ in was. Some other rules we have learnt are that English words don’t end in ‘i.’ We bet you’re thinking of the word spaghetti, but it’s not an English word so it doesn’t count! We also know that there are five ways to make the ‘er’ sound. We have learnt the first three and use the rhyme Her, First, Nurse, Works Early to help us remember them.

We have been working on our SUPER sentence writing. Every sentence must have a noun, it must tell you something and it must make sense! We love learning the rules and tricks that help us with our reading and writing.

Year Two

Although Year 2 have only been back at school for just under two weeks we have crammed a lot into that time.

Our favourite activities so far this term include running the Early Years assembly for students from Kindergarten to Year 2. The girls practiced their parts in the first week back. They then led the assembly, reading their parts confidently and taking pride in sharing their work. We shared our work in Mathematics making arrays for our multiplication facts.

Field Day was a great day where we all had fun running and being active with the whole school. Our final favourite activity has been making a gift for our mothers. We hope you enjoy scrolling through our photos.....we haven't shared any of our Mother's Day activities as we didn't want to spoil the surprise. We hope all Year 2 mums have a lovely day on Sunday.

Year Three

Year 3 has had a busy and exciting beginning to Term 2. We have continued reading Matilda and are learning about different sentence types to use in our own narrative writing.

We have also started a new integrated unit entitled ‘Creating Communities’. We have started the unit by activating our prior knowledge and thinking about what we already know about communities by exploring maps and drawing our own communities.

In week 2, we had an exciting day at Field Day, cheering for our houses as they ran their cross-country races.

In visual art, we have been creating some exciting art for Mother’s Day inspired by artist Robert Delaunay. We hope our mum’s love them!

Year Four

The beginning of Term 2 has been busy in Year 4. We have started new units of work in Maths and English as well as working hard to wrap up projects and tasks from last term, such as our posters about the effects of gravitational force. Year 4 have enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with friends at school and have lots of fun at Field Day!

Year Five

Just like that, Term 2 is upon us. As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, Year 5 have wasted no time getting into the swing of things. So far this term, we have been busy investigating healthy eating, creating artwork from the perspective of our class novel's main character, putting our knowledge of mapping and coordinates to the test, and discussing the properties of light. We've tackled questions such as: "How many serves of fruit and veg a day should we be eating?", "How could we draw up a map of the school?", and "How are shadows formed?" Even with all of this on our minds, we still made sure to make time for an extremely important task: Mother's Day craft!! We also had a wonderful time participating in Field Day and going on our excursion to the Cascade Female Factory.

Year Six White

Year 6 White students have started Term 2 by considering their Rights and Responsibilities as learners. They have constructed a Class Charter based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Students carefully considered the 42 rights enumerated in the Convention and selected 6 that described the type of learning community they desired to be: inclusive, protective (and protected), respectful, compassionate, and creative.

Having identified their Rights, they worked together to clearly state the ways in which they need to act (Responsibility) to ensure these Rights are continually upheld in all their learning spaces. These actions are the most crucial part of the Class Charter, helping students to take on board the shared responsibility for creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
