Year 5/6 Parliament Incursion

Nyagao, 56L

The incursion was very informative, and I was delighted to learn about the parliament and how these meetings work! Very interesting to learn about. The opposition provided very well-thought responses in defense to our bill. Fun to hear our teams going back and forth.  

The events that 5 / 6 L participated in are listed below ;

First, we studied and took quizzes about the levels of parliament ; Local, State and Federal.  These factual little quizzes were fun to answer!

After that, we had an election! How exciting. As you may know, I won the role of prime minister. 

Following up the election, there was a conference that the government and the opposition took part in. Rousing and educational!

Wrapping that up, I’m proud of everyone who I was up against/with in the incursion!

The incursion was an amazing experience, with everything from learning new words to even role play. We started with a few questions, such as, what is parliament? Or,  what is the name for the lower house in parliament? These were answered by the

5/6s as we were the ones at the incursion. The next part of the session was role play. We chose a few candidates  (myself and a few others) to do a fake election and passed around a fake bill and argued why or why not to get the bill accepted. It was an incredibly fun incursion and one to remember! 

Samantha:

In our incursion 6 students got to be a party. I was the peace party, and Ben was the Equality party. On the cardboard we had to read out what it said on the card and each person in our class got to vote on which was the best one. Ben won so he got the Prime Minister to act as and I got the Leader Of Opposition. Our Incursion was so fun. It was fun to have a say, to debate just everything about it was great! 

Ben: 

The incursion was very fun. The two adults who took our incursion explained a lot about Parliament on their slides, then the teacher chose 6 candidates to have the opportunity to be elected. I won the election and Samantha was the opposition. We then had a debate in the house of representatives and then we finished. It was very fun, the incursion was fantastic.
