Team Leaders Message

My goodness! It is hard to believe that we are actually halfway through the year already! We have packed so much into this term that I hardly know where to begin!

Our section has continued to be such a great place to work, learn and have some fun with friends! We have had an incredible birds eye view of the construction site that is currently in the middle of our school! It has been really exciting to see the small changes happening over time. Whilst we have been really flexible with the building works that have been going on, what we are really looking forward to is some new places to hang out, especially the half basketball court.

Our Discovery unit has been all about Indigenous and Australian History with students delving into various sub-topics such as pre- and post-colonisation dynamics, ties to land and Country, and exploration of Indigenous culture and arts. Students have created projects about their learning and presented them to their class. We established real-world connections through our experience days to the Melbourne Museum, the NGV, and Botanical Gardens. These excursions were curated with an Indigenous perspective, offering students a rich immersion into the journey of First Nations Peoples.

To continue our term 1 theme of building connection and with a focus on practical skills, the Secondary 9/10s have explored the idea of ‘Fika’. This is a Swedish concept where friends meet for a cuppa and a pastry. Each class made cinnamon scrolls; carefully following the recipe and working together to knead the dough. Afterwards, when they were cool, they got to ice them, eat them and enjoy each other's company through conversations. Some classes decided that they would like to Fika weekly!

On Wednesday mornings the Secondary 9/10s walk, bounce, box, run, strengthen and stretch their way through Fit For Life! This term saw a new FFL choice being offered - Bounce! Students went for almost an hour of trampolining, playing in the foam pit and altogether having a blast. Other popular choices designed to keep students active, promote healthy lifestyles, build interpersonal skills and work effectively in teams, included Dance, Ten Pin Bowling, Gym, Boxing and Interschool Sports.

It was so great to see so many families at our Open STEM morning earlier in the term. Our theme was ‘Feats of Engineering’ and there were some incredible structures made from spaghetti and marshmallows!

Congratulations to Ben in 9/10D for winning the principal's award this term. He was thrilled to be awarded his certificate by Matt during our 9/10 Assembly recently.

Wishing you all a healthy term break! We look forward to seeing you all back for an action packed Term 3!
