Senior School Eisteddfod Debating
Last week, students from Years 7 - 12 had the opportunity to represent King’s College in the local Eisteddfod Debating competition run by the Warrnambool Rotary Club.
Each team and team member presented themselves very professionally and displayed strong public speaking skills. All students worked hard in their own time to develop their arguments and write their speeches. All teams were up against strong opponents, representing Schools across our region from Portland to Timboon, with five of our seven teams winning their debates.
Congratulations to all students who volunteered to be part of this competition. Next year we will consider entering additional teams, given how many students registered their interest. We will also consider entering teams in the impromptu section, as well as the prepared debates section.
Our teams consisted of the following students, debating on these topics:
Australia should ban the import of all petrol and diesel powered motor cars.
- Year 7: Brenna A, Lily B, Isabella H, Eleyeen K & Phillip S
- Year 8: Sienna B, Zara B, Rachel C, Anneliese S, Miriam W & Yusuf Z
Our health system is stressed and failing due to avoidable causes, such as smoking and poor diet choices.
- Year 9: Ben B, Harriet D, Victoria H, Ryan SK & Hamish V
- Year 10: Abraham B, Matthew P & Esther W
Democracy has been hijacked by political parties.
- Year 11: Kiara A, Dan D, Bianca M & Ruth S
- Year 12: Jeremy C, Ebony C & Annabelle H
A special acknowledgment to Isabella and Bianca who willingly volunteered to debate in the year level above.
