Reading in 3/4 Wealth

Reading is an important part of our daily routine in 34W. There are many opportunities for reading throughout the day. 

Students engage in Guided Reading with the teacher every day for 40minutes and have opportunities for independent reading after recess. Students also visit the library on Wednesday to borrow new books for their independent reading time and to add to our classroom library.

Favourite authors in our classroom are: J.K Rowling, David Williams, Sally Rippen and Dav Pilkey.

Heba: “I enjoy reading graphic novels in independent reading and I love going to the library to pick a book”.

Mariam: “I like to read Billy B Brown because they are good stories for me, and books are fun to read.”

Ibraheem: “In guided reading I like when we have to answer questions about the story and share my thinking with the group”.

Mustafa: “I love to read new books because they are interesting and when I get more new books, I learn new words and new ideas to add to my learning”

Last term, we collaborated as a group to create a theme for our classroom library. Students were excited to have “Outer Space” as our theme. Students borrowed books to learn about the different planets and space travel.
