ECCO fundraiser gives food and essential supplies to remote Christian School in Uganda

This year the Emmaus Christian College Outreach team (ECCO) sponsored a remote Christian school in Uganda called 'Raise the Roots, Build the Joy' Foundation located in the Bugiri District.

We raised and donated $272 with which the Christian School was able to purchase:

  • Weekly food for 43 students and 7 staff members including, beans, rice, meat, potatoes, eggs, vegetables, sugar, spices, bananas and cooking oil.
  • First aid emergency equipment, firewood and fuel.

Their school's vision is to ‘see a positive change in vulnerable children to a better life.’ The Foundation offers care, support, and protection through shelter, education and food for both orphans and disadvantaged children. Their aim is to bring these young children up to live Godly lives.

We had the opportunity to provide support for the students, including paying government fees to open for the semester and providing food for them.

I found the photos sent to us so wonderful that I wanted to share them with the Emmaus community to show the joy of giving.

"Write a Book in a Day" for The Kid's Cancer Project

We are thrilled to announce that 36 talented students from Years 7-12 will participate in the "Write a Book in a Day" competition in Week 6!

This unique event challenges teams to write and illustrate a complete book within just six hours, fostering creativity, teamwork, and time management.

Our students will be working hard to create their stories. Each team will receive specific characters, settings, and words to include in their books, ensuring that every story is one-of-a-kind.

This competition not only celebrates literary talent but also supports a wonderful cause. Funds raised from the event will go towards The Kids' Cancer Project, which supports children's hospitals and cancer research. We encourage our school community to get behind our teams by sponsoring them and helping make a difference.

To donate, search 'Emmaus' to sponsor a team. Thank you for supporting our students to achieve their creative and fundraising goals!

Year 9's 'rough out' for homelessness

Last Friday, the Year 9 Rite Journey students spent a cold night sleeping 'rough' at the Westcare Centre in the city, getting a little taste of a less comfortable life.

They learned a lot about issues related to homelessness in Adelaide and the heart of God for all people, especially those in need. We teachers were so pleased to see the students endure and engage with the whole program.

We are also deeply thankful for the generosity of family and friends who have given to the fundraising effort (over $13,000 so far!), all of which goes directly to this valuable service to people experiencing homelessness.

If anyone would like to sponsor a student, fundraising is still open for a few more weeks.

Pathway Planning Evening

Our Pathway Planning evening was a wonderful success Tuesday Week 2. Most of the credit goes to Jessica Worley, our Director of Teaching and Learning, and her team for their vision and effort in organising this event.

Set to the backdrop of Coffee, OMG Decadent Doughnuts and an outstanding sunset, our families, students and teachers met together to explore each student's vision for their learning, schooling and beyond. With the support of the University of Adelaide, The University of South Australia, Flinders University and Tabor College, together with our Pathway experts, we worked collaboratively to create unique plans for each student.

This year, expert industry panellists shared about the intersection of their values, faith and work pathways, volunteering their time to answer questions posed to by families and students.

This event is integral to the work of our Secondary School as we build a culture of life-long learning. We are privileged to partner with our students and families in this way.

It was a great success, and it provided an opportunity for families to have the all-important conversations required to reflect individual learning pathways for their students.

Congratulations to the Curriculum team, and thanks to the many staff and volunteers who contributed to helping students make good decisions about their future.
