From the Acting Principal

Week  1 Term 3 2024

Welcome back to Term Three. I trust that everyone had a restful break and is ready for an exciting and busy term. This term, there will be much to celebrate, including the Olympics, learning about sustainability, and our concert, just to name a few. We look forward to sharing our learning journey with you this term.

NAIDOC Week

We have been celebrating Indigenous culture and history during our NAIDOC Week. On Monday we had a local indigenous elder Uncle Ian visit and tell us about his life and indigenous culture.

On Tuesday we had a gold coin donation and wore free dress in the colours of the Indigenous flag. The funds are being donated to the Open the Doors Foundation that helps all Indigenous children access education.

School Expectations on Language Use

At the end of last term I spoke with each of the classes from Grade 1 to Grade 6 about our school expectations regarding language use. It was explained to every child that swearing and inappropriate language will not be tolerated at St. Bede's. If a child swears or uses inappropriate language in the playground or classroom, they will be sent to the office and will spend time off the yard and out of the classroom. This remains a strong focus.

We ask parents to please reinforce this code of conduct with their children to ensure a respectful and positive learning environment for all.

Uniform Policy / Expectations

We would like to remind you that all children should be in their winter uniform this term.

As part of our uniform policy:

  • Children should not wear jewellery, except for stud earrings. This is a safety precaution.
  • Children should not wear makeup, including nail polish.

We ask for your cooperation in reinforcing these guidelines with your children to ensure a safe and uniform school environment.

Birthday Celebrations and Food Sharing Policy

We would like to remind everyone of our school policy regarding food sharing. As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all students, especially those with allergies, our school is a no sharing food school. However, we do have an exception for birthday celebrations.

Birthday Celebrations: The only item that children are allowed to share with their classmates on their birthdays is lemonade icy poles. This exception helps us celebrate special occasions while maintaining the safety and well-being of all students. Lollypops are not allowed due to risks to safety.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in respecting this rule. Together, we can ensure a safe and happy environment for all our students.

Parking for the Disabled

A reminder about the use of the Parking for the Disabled parks at St Bede's. These spaces are located as follows:

  • One in the car park across the road.
  • The second is the first car park space down from the school crossing on Marwal Ave.

We kindly ask that our community respects these spaces. We have families that need to use them to easily access the school, and they are unfortunately unable to do so when these spaces are occupied by vehicles without disabled parking permits.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in ensuring that these spaces are available for those who truly need them.

Thank you for your continued support.

Regards,

Larissa
