Green Team

Hey folks!  It’s Sam from the Green Team here.

Last week the 3-4 students had the pleasure of meeting Inga Hamilton from Resource SMART for an incursion.  She shared some startling facts about landfill and what happens when organic waste and plastic breaks down in soil.

The 3-4 students did a rubbish sort from the classroom bins and found that there were lots of things in our bins that could be recycled.  This experience has helped forge The Green Team, which is comprised of some very enthusiastic 3-4 students who are committed to making Dana Street more sustainable.

This morning, they spoke at assembly and we are asking Dana Street families to opt-in to Ballarat’s Soft Plastics Pilot Collection Program.  If these families could donate one of their orange bags to the school, this will assist us in reducing the amount of soft plastics that go into landfill and our playground areas.  This would hopefully give us enough plastic bags to last until the end of the year.

We are also encouraging families to reduce the amount of soft plastics that make their way to school.  Stay tuned for more awesome ideas!
