Deutschland und die Olympische Spiele

Geschichte (History)

Germany has been the host country 3 times.  In 1936, Germany hosted both the Summer and the Winter Olympic Games in Berlin and in 1972, Germany hosted the Summer Olympics in Munich.

Germany had been selected to host the 1916 Summer Games as well as the 1940 Winter Games, both of which had to be cancelled due to World Wars. After these wars, Germany was banned from participating in the 1920, 1924 and 1948 Olympics.

Paris 2024

Germany has 428 competitors competing in 30 sports.

Germany’s flag bearers were professional basketball and NBA player, Dennis Schröder, and gold medal judoka, Anna-Maria Wagner.

Germany’s medal tally in the games so far is:

Goldmedaillen - 8

Silbermedaillen - 5

Bronzemedaillen - 4

Total - 17

While Germany is certainly better known for its prowess in the Winter Olympic Games, it is enjoying success in Paris with medals in equestrian, basketball, rowing and swimming.
