Performing Arts Showcase - Semester 2
The Performing Arts Showcase was held on the evening of Wednesday 26th June. The event functions as an important performance outcome for students enrolled in Year 9 Music, Drama and Dance classes, and highlights the students' creative efforts over the term in their Performing Arts classes. It was great to see students thrive in a “real world” performance situation as students are taken out of classes on the day of performance to attend a Tech Dress rehearsal with a professional lighting/stage setup. There was a real buzz backstage before the performances which students enjoyed and motivated them to perform.
Music
In Year 9 there are two music subjects, Year 9 Music Composition and Performance and Year 9 Music Technology & Performance. In Music Composition, students spent the term arranging and rehearsing music repertoire within mostly contemporary music styles. In Music Technology, students spent the term learning about the Blues and composed and performed their own 12 Bar Blues.
Drama
In Year 9 Drama, students were developing their acting skills over the term and then presented a series of short plays from the book “Fractured Fairy Tales for Student Actors: A Collection of Contemporary Fairy Tale Scenes” by Jan Peterson Ewen.
Dance
The evening concluded with an exhilarating performance by the Year 9 Dance class of Usher’s “Yeah!” The students throughout the term have been learning contemporary dance styles such as hip hop through research and practice.
A special thank you goes to our dedicated Year 9 teachers Melissa Goodger, Matt Roche, Samarah Fletcher, Zach Halliday-Bayly and support staff Cameron McCormick and Ashleigh Robertson who worked tirelessly to prepare the students for this event.
We are incredibly proud of our Year 9 students and look forward to seeing their continued growth in the Performing Arts.
