Positive Behaviour Expectations
Our school is continuing to implement the positive behaviour expectations developed collaboratively by our staff and students last year. This term, we are focusing specifically on the value of kindness in the classroom. Our core values—Connection, Kindness, Curiosity, and Excellence—serve as the foundation for this initiative, guiding our students toward positive behaviours that embody kindness. These behaviours include:
- We show empathy for each other and respect diversity. Teachers (we) call out unkind behaviours.
- We help each other in our learning progress.
- We are inclusive when learning together in groups. We actively listen to one another and make a positive contribution.
- We use positive language, that is inclusive of individual differences, diversity and ability.
- We use a polite and helpful tone, volume and language when communicating.
To help students internalise these expectations, we have delivered focused mini lessons where teachers explain what these behaviours look like in practice.
Staff members acknowledge students who demonstrate these positive behaviours, and some students may receive a Positive Behaviour Champion (PBC) notes for their outstanding contributions. When a student receives a PBC note, parents/guardians/caregivers are notified via email about this recognition. Additionally, students who receive PBC notes are entered into a draw, and winners are publicly awarded prizes by their sub-schools.
We encourage parents to support this initiative by discussing with their children what it means to be kind to others, reinforcing these values at home.
