The Addams Family Musical Camp

On July 16th, students and staff that collaborated on this year’s musical, “The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy”, set off to Lady Northcote Discovery Camp in Glenmoore for three days, so they could have their own space to rehearse and practice for the upcoming production. This was my first ever musical camp and I must say I wasn’t disappointed. People in all areas - cast, crew, band, costumes etc -  put in great amounts of high quality effort, bringing along excitement and enthusiasm during rehearsals (I’m honestly surprised considering we had to stay up for about 17 hours). We also had to make sure not to bump into any little kids (possibly Year 4s) as they were on camp at the same time! Our first night went along smoothly, running through all of Act 2 and even having trivia after dinner held by the Year 12s (my team came dead last). The food actually wasn’t that bad for camp food standards either, I found myself satisfied with every meal. The second day, however, was even better.

While the day started off as normal, ending with us running through Act 1, we held a lip-sync talent show (themed around love for some strange reason), and everyone was phenomenal! From crazy costume changes to the Titanic to moonwalking to Lady Gaga to love triangles to bromance and even a surprise worm at the end of one of the songs, I’m sure it was very hard to pick a winner among all the talent these students had.

And after the talent show, as per tradition, we turned off the lights, got in a circle and blasted Bohemian Rhapsody as we sang along with all the emotion in our hearts. This was incredible and even brought me to tears with how emotional it got! Though I’m sure it was most emotional for The Year 12s. This was their send off and they did an amazing job running the activities and keeping everything under control; they will be missed! Overall, this has been an experience I’m sure many of us won’t forget. Massive thanks to the teachers and staff, especially production manager Lachlan Ridge and director Kate O’Callaghan, who are able to organize this event every year. None of this is possible without you all!

We all hope to see you on August 16th, 17th or 18th at the Clocktower Centre in Moonee Ponds, and I can’t wait to be a part of the musical again next year!
