Assistant Principal's Report

I would like to thank everyone for their warm welcome and kind words. It has been so lovely to be a part of the Fitzroy North community. We have had a wonderful start to Term three with lots of exciting activities.

The grade 3/4 students have been participating in Athletics on Thursdays and having a wonderful time on Fridays for their Immersion Day. They participated in many science experiments such as designing and making boats and testing them out, as well as chemical reactions when combining two or three substances such as milk, detergent and food die. The science experiments were a wonderful way to teach procedural writing as well as learning to predict and hypothesise about an experiment.

The grade 1/2s began the week with their Potato Olympics. We had many potato athletes competing in events like diving, gymnastics and surfing. Many scientific ideas were discussed such as how weight and size can determine velocity, speed and distance. Students experimented with their potatoes and tried to make improvements in their success. As Freya said beautifully in one experiment whilst making a parachute, ‘I need to catch more air’.

And of course, our wonderful 100 days of Prep. So many old little people, and a full day of celebrations and fun activities, ending with cake. Please make sure you see the Prep team photos and blurb of the day.

I look forward to getting to know everyone a little bit better each week.

Have a wonderful weekend.
