Bonjour

Online gaming can be a great way for young people to develop skills like strategic thinking, teamwork, and hand-eye coordination, as well as connect with friends and make new ones. The focus on online gaming and social media often highlights both their benefits and potential drawbacks.

We conducted a survey last week and it was quite alarming how many of our students chat to strangers online. This is a concern and we’re here to help students and families develop healthy habits and encourage open conversations about their gaming experiences.  It is vital, that when your child is engaged in online games that you know the people that they are interacting with.

Here are a few ways to emphasise shared goals for children and families:

Time Management: Set limits on gaming to ensure it doesn’t interfere with schoolwork, physical activity, or other important activities.

Content Awareness: Check the content of the games your children play. Choose games that are age-appropriate and align with our values.

Online Safety: Teach students to practice safe online behavior, including not sharing personal information and reporting any issues.

Healthy Balance: Encourage a mix of activities, including exercise and face-to-face interactions, to support overall well-being.

It’s crucial to have a balanced approach and foster a community that supports the healthy development of young people. If you have questions or need advice about online gaming, please reach out to your classroom teacher/s.

Enjoy the sunshine this week!
