Assistant Principal's Report

Term 3: Assistant Principal's Report

We are delighted to share that we have had a very smooth start to the term, despite the recent cold weather. It is heartwarming to see our students’ resilience and enthusiasm in embracing the new challenges this semester brings.  Students have settled remarkably well into their new semester timetables and we acknowledge with appreciation our dedicated staff for their continuous support in guiding our students through this transitional period.

Term 3 can be a very challenging term for students, particularly in the senior years, as they prepare themselves for major assessment tasks and end of year exams.  At South Oakleigh College, we prioritize the well-being and growth of each student. Our dedicated Wellbeing team is always available to provide support and guidance, ensuring that every student has the resources they need to thrive academically and emotionally.  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or matters you would like to raise with our Wellbeing Team.

Attendance

A reminder to parents that daily attendance is important for all children and young people to succeed in education and to ensure they don’t fall behind both socially and developmentally.

School participation maximises life opportunities for children and young people by providing them with education and support networks. School helps children to develop important skills, knowledge and values that set them up for further learning and participation in their community. School helps them to make the most of life opportunities. A child missing one day a fortnight will miss four weeks in a year, and more than a year of school by Year 10. It is important that children develop regular attendance habits at an early age. If you need support with engaging your child at school, please do not hesitate to contact the College on 95792322.

Supervision before and after school

School commences at 8:45am. The first bell rings at 8:35am when students should be at school to organise their books and prepare for their first lesson. We request that parents do not drop off students at school before 8:00am.

We are unable to provide formal supervision before or after school,  except when students are attending prearranged rehearsals or activities.

2025 Subject Selection

Students in Years 9-11 have now made their first round of selections for subjects in 2025. Shortly, these students will participate in Course Counselling where they will reflect on their learning achievements in Middle School and pathway to Senior School with a member of the School Leadership Team. Students will reflect on their subject choices considering their Semester Report, engagement in class, Morrisby interviews and pathways to VCE or the Vocational Major.

School Production

Finally, I would like to acknowledge the amazing talents of our students involved in our Production , “Disney’s Newsies Jr” and the dedication of our staff who have helped make the show a reality. I know that there will be more to say about this event at a later date, but well done to everyone involved and best of luck for the performances.

Wishing you all a successful and fulfilling Term 3!
