Welcome to Week 8
Year 5/6
Students have continued to learn about “Japanese houses”. They learnt a good amount of vocabulary and fun facts including how to use chopsticks properly at the table. The next topic for Year 5/6 has been “At the hamburger shop”. Students have been completing lots of reading practice in Japanese and learnt how to order food in Japanese. We all made origami paper crane to wish for the world peace.
Year 3/4
Students have continued to learn about “Japanese houses”. They learnt words such as entrance, grass mat, paper sliding door, flat cushion to sit on, table with a heater, bathroom and toilet. They also learnt how to set a table for Japanese meals and practiced how to use chopsticks.
With the next topic “At the hamburger shop”, students have been learning the names of some common food and drinks and how to order them in Japanese.
Year 1/2
Students have been continuing to learn about “Things around the classroom” and now know how to say various words such as pencil, eraser, scissors, ruler, notebook, book and pencil case in Japanese. They also learn a new song “Don’t forget to bring them” using the words related to stationeries.
We have also started learning how to ask for items such as food and drinks in Japanese. They are now using this sentence to ask me for the kinder square paper of their choice.
Foundation
Students have been focusing on learning about and identifying different body parts. We sang our favourite song “Head Shoulders” in Japanese and also learnt 2 more body songs – “Hiza Pon” and “Atama Kata Ude”. Singing in Japanese is the great way to remember new words! Please ask your child/ren to sing some Japanese songs for you!
They also learnt and practiced the names of some animals such as sheep-hitsuji, cow-ushi and chicken-niwatori. Students are good at indicating likes and dislikes, and there are always lots of smiles in our Japanese class!
Have a great week!
