Rostrum Voice of Youth State Finalists and Runner-Up
Congratulations to Sophie L (Year 11) and Mia P (Year 9) who, after winning their regions in the Rostrum Voice of Youth public speaking competition earlier this year, represented eastern Melbourne in the Senior and Junior Rostrum Voice of Youth State Finals. This final round of the competition was held at Balwyn High School, and saw speakers come from all corners of the state to present a series of prepared and impromptu speeches.
In an outstanding result, Sophie was the runner-up in the senior division, presenting an eloquent and intelligent prepared speech warning about the dangers of adopting AI in warfare, and a heartfelt impromptu speech on the stresses that face students and the need to look on the bright side of life. Well done to Sophie on finishing second in Victoria!
Mia also did an exceptional job, presenting a passionate speech on the need to lower the voting age, and an impromptu speech on the importance of being proud of our achievements. She did extremely well in an exceptionally high quality and challenging competition.
Congratulations to both Sophie and Mia on their outstanding results, and to all the students who participated in this year’s competition for having the courage to stand up and share their views, and the confidence and skill they all demonstrated.

The Big Science Competition
All Huntingtower students in Year 7-9 undertook the BIG Science Competition during their Science classes in May. They were asked to solve problems across biology, chemistry and physics disciplines and extend themselves beyond their regular Science curriculum. They engaged their creative and critical thinking skills to solve real-world problems. This is an international competition with 40000 participants.
