Library Card
Book Week, held across Australia in August each year, is a time to celebrate reading and Australian authors and Illustrators. The celebrations culminate with the announcement by the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year awards. Read about the shortlisted titles, most of which are in the Huntingtower primary and senior libraries, at this link https://cbca.org.au/shortlist-2024/
The Primary Library
Book Week is fast approaching! On Tuesday 13 August, all students from ELC to Year 6 will participate in our annual Book Parade, and should come to school dressed as a book character. Parents and friends are welcome to come and see the Book Parade in the PAC. Please be seated before 9am. The Book Parade usually finishes around 9:30am – 9:40am. It’s always a fantastic morning, we’d love to see you there! After the Book Parade, students will participate in mixed-age groups reading some of the CBCA Shortlisted Books from the Picture Book and Early Childhood shortlists and completing crafts inspired by them. In the afternoon, ELC to year 2 will have an author visit from Sue deGennaro, and the years 3 to 6 will have a visit from Nova Weetman to discuss all things books and writing.

The Senior Library
With the theme Reading is Magic, the senior library celebrates Book Week for the whole month of August. Students can participate in lunchtime challenges: Trivia quizzes, Battle of the books, Epic first lines, a Maker Station and more. Combining with Mather on the 13th of August, students have the opportunity to dress up as their favourite magical character beginning with the letter M. A major focus of Book Month is ‘Write a Book in a Day’ happening on the 18th of August with 117 students participating. 14 teams will be collaborating to each create a picture book, ready for publication, in just 12 hours. We are looking forward to celebrating the Magic of Reading and books with our Huntingtower students.
