Confirmation Reflection Day News Report  - Written by Liana S and Stella C

On Wednesday, the Year 6 students embarked on their Confirmation journey with a Reflection Day at Don Bosco Retreat, Lysterfield. Each student showed their generosity by buying a gift for those less fortunate. We travelled on a bus for half an hour, up the mountain side in Lysterfield. The view was a morning beauty, as the frost slowly melted through the glass window and the sun shone with all its bright light. The students chatter went to a sudden pause as soon as the bus stopped. They looked out the window, side to side, to the beautiful landscape.

One by one, each student got off the bus and walked on a path through the retreat into the main room. As the teachers explained the activities for the day, the students felt excitement flow through them. We were split into 3 groups then started our first challenge. We played a teamwork game, which got us working together to reach the goal of completing the game. As a team we had to figure out the path then get each student in their team to cross the path correctly otherwise they had to go to the back of the line. Groups one by one happily reached their goal although Group 1 was the fastest so they won. Everyone was still cheerful despite losing. 

Then we began our rotation activities. There were 3 rotations. The first one was a calming Christian meditation with Mrs D’Angelo, so relaxing all the students nearly went into slumber. The second, was a reading from the bible, the parable of The Sower. The year 6’s read it aloud then filled in their booklet. Then the final rotation was about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Every single student completed their work with a smile on their face and an improvement in their knowledge about the Sacrament of Confirmation! The activities weren’t the only exciting part of the day, recess and lunch was full of amazement because of all the land we could run around on. 

We would also like to thank Father Andrew for taking the time to come and visit us. He was involved in the Reconciliation session and our Liturgy. Overall it was such an amazing highlight of the year for the year 6’s!

Confirmation

This term our Year 6 students will receive the sacrament of Confirmation. During Confirmation, candidates will be ‘sealed’ with the Holy Spirit. Students will explore people who demonstrate saintly qualities and hopefully gain a greater understanding of the Fruits and Gifts of the Holy Spirit. To help prepare for Confirmation, Confirmation Commitment Masses, Reflection Day and Confirmation Medal Masses will be held in August with the Sacrament of Confirmation being held on Wednesday 28th August, 6DB 5:00pm Mass and 6SL 7:00pm Mass.  Like anything we do in life, preparation is important. Sacraments are not a "tick" object in life, but rather part of our life journey - a journey shared with God and family.
