The Australian Olympic team's recent performance has been nothing short of extraordinary, showcasing both the talent and perseverance of our athletes on the world stage. Despite a few close calls and blurry-eyed moments, the 2024 Games were filled with inspiring stories of personal triumph. For instance, our very own Eddie Ockenden received the honour of carrying the Australian flag at the Opening Ceremony, demonstrating the power and dedication of hard work. Likewise, Ariarne Titmus’ record-breaking swim in the pool was a testament to her relentless training and resilience. These achievements serve as a reminder of what can be accomplished with passion and perseverance, inspiring all of us to strive for our personal best in everything we do.
At St Mary’s College, we celebrated this spirit of excellence and camaraderie with our Green and Gold Day, an event that highlighted the unity and enthusiasm of our school community. The day was a fantastic showcase of school spirit, with students and staff coming together to support our athletes. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the thrilling staff versus students’ indoor soccer game. After a fiercely contested match, the staff emerged victorious, adding a touch of competitive fun to the festivities. It was wonderful to see everyone’s excitement and support, reflecting the strong sense of community that defines our school.
Looking ahead, we are excited to conduct our Year 11/12 2025 Course Confirmation Interviews this Thursday 15 August in the Student Resource Centre (library). We encourage all parents and carers to attend with their child, as your involvement plays a vital role in helping our students make informed decisions about their educational journey and future pathway. Together, let's continue to support and celebrate the achievements of our students and the vibrant spirit of our St Mary's College community.
We look forward to welcoming all fathers, special persons, daughters and sons to attend our Father's Day celebration on Wednesday 28 August, where a complimentary breakfast will be enjoyed on the College Green. Please find more information on the breakfast in the flyer below or refer to the 'Take note' section of this newsletter. Register your attendance at the link here.
This week is Catholic Education Week in Tasmania, and we will gather on Thursday 15 August with all of the schools in the south for a Mass in the Cathedral. This will be followed later in the day with the annual Catholic Education Awards ceremony where our very own Caroline Wilson-Haffenden will receive a service award. You can read Caroline's full bio on the Catholic Education Tasmania website here. Congratulations, Caroline.
