Spotlight on Learning Bottlebrush

Bottlebrush 1 - Ms Hirose/Ms Green
Last term in Bottlebrush 1, we developed a multimodal Google Site focusing on each group’s chosen food industry. We researched the production process and sustainable practices. We practiced using reliable information from credible sources and using statistics to support and strengthen our websites. We also learned to use language that suited the target audience while discussing the pros and cons of these sustainable practices and further inviting discussion about future practices. Here are some snippets of the websites the students created with their group members.
Bottlebrush 2 - Ms Liao
This term in Bottlebrush 2, we have been focusing on developing engaging characters by reading our mentor text ‘Beetle Boy’ by M.G Leonard and analysing the techniques the author uses. We have been applying extended noun groups, adjectival phrases, adverbial clauses, figurative language, imagery and more to describe characters. In Year 6, our goal is to allow the reader to come to their own conclusion (make inferences) about the characters we write about by including meaningful dialogue and precise vocabulary to give hints about their inner and outer traits. We have also been learning how to deepen our characters by including a backstory, motivations, goals, flaws and strengths. Here are some snippets of our writing over the past two weeks! Soon, we will be writing the first chapter of a narrative, just like Beetle Boy!
Bottlebrush 3 - Mr Tipping
This term in Bottlebrush 3, we have been exploring different forms of energy and how they transform from one type to another. Students experimented with chemical energy through baking soda and vinegar reactions while also building virtual circuits to observe electrical energy in action. Our hands-on projects brought these concepts to life, with water wheels demonstrating how kinetic energy converts into mechanical power, and mini roller coasters illustrating the constant trade-off between gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy along the track. These practical tasks gave the class a chance to test scientific ideas firsthand and discover how energy drives movement, light, and chemical changes in everyday life.
