Sustainability news

Parent and staff Sustainability group

On Wednesday afternoon we had our first Wales Street Community Sustainability group meeting. On the agenda was an initiative that is being organised by Melissa Walsh to plant out the nature strips in Clyde Street to create a biodiversity corridor. Wales Street is also receiving help from Zoe and Carmen from SPAN Clyde Street Neighbourhood House and Phil from the Merri Creek Management Committee. This is an exciting project that will connect Wales Street with our community and improve biodiversity in our area. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday the 12th of August.

Weeding Wednesday

Our Weeding Wednesday days are starting again this semester. Thank you to 6A and 6B for weeding and cleaning the Speight Street side of your school last week! It looks terrific! This week the Grade 5’s weeded around the Clyde Street area and enjoyed a beautiful Winter’s afternoon to be outside. Thank you for your enthusiasm Grade 5’s! Each grade level has a week until the end of the year. If any family members would like to join us, please contact your child’s teacher. Weeding Wednesday sessions are mainly run in the afternoon sessions after lunch, from 2pm.

WOW (Walk or Wheel to school) Darebin Competition

Last Term our school participated in the Walk or Wheel competition from Darebin council. Throughout the term more that half of our students walked or wheeled to school which has saved pollution going into our atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who took alternative transport to school at least once every week.

Congratulations to the winning classes of our WOW competition-1A Lesley and 4C Clara! We hope you enjoy your pizza parties and well done on a fantastic effort!

Sustainability Group Leaders

Our Sustainability Group Leaders have been busy organising Wales Street’s Nude food competition, which ran this week. Thank you to everyone who provided a Nude food lunch for their children. The competition hopes to remind and encourage more students to bring a Nude Food lunch to school and to raise awareness of Plastic Free July. The winning class with the most Nude Food lunches will win a session of sustainable activities organised by the SGL.

Yours in sustainability,

Toby Marquette
