Principals Report

Welcome to term 3 and a special welcome to the new families who have joined our community this term. I do hope that your child has enjoyed a good break over the winter holidays and that you were able to have a break.

This term promises to be an exciting one, with events including the Book Week Character Parade, 100 Days of Prep, Grade 5 camp, Grade F-3 Commonwealth Games Tabloid Sports and the JSC Pyjama Day.

NAPLAN Results 

Families of students in years 3 and 5 will now have received the 2026 NAPLAN results. Whilst we celebrate the amazing achievements of our students, we are reminded that these results are only one small part of the assessment processes at WSPS. The results are only relative to the test administered on that one day of the school year. Learning progress takes many other forms, and we consider this is building a profile of a student’s learning progress.

Works Over The Holidays

Schools never really stop, and while students and staff were enjoying a well-earned break, several important improvement projects were completed around the school.

I'm delighted to share that our landscaping project alongside the oval has now been completed, creating a more attractive and functional space for our students to enjoy.

We also took the opportunity to finally address the ongoing sewerage issues that have caused disruptions over the past few years. With the school empty, our plumbers were able to open all of the inspection pits, use camera technology to identify the problem areas, and undertake significant repair works. This included removing a 4 x 4 metre section of concrete to replace old, cracked clay pipes that had been extensively damaged by tree root intrusion with new PVC pipes.

We have been assured that these works have resolved the problem, and we are looking forward to putting these issues behind us.

A sincere thank you to Patrick and the team for their professionalism and expertise. Despite the scale of the project, they completed the work to an exceptionally high standard—you would never know that such major works had taken place just two weeks ago!

Students and staff were also excited to see an extension of artifical grass that has been laid outside the HUB. This has provided a lovely additional space for students to play and relax. 

GETTING TO SCHOOL ON TIME!

This is a reminder that we need our students at school by 8.55am each day. 

As our Principal Team walk around our school each morning, we continue to notice the very settled and structured processes we have implemented to ensure our students are “set up for success” each day. This includes our 8.55am bell time which is designed to provide students the opportunity to enter their classroom, say hello to their teachers and get organised for the day of learning which starts at 9am sharp.

However, we also still see some students arriving after 8.55am. You would be amazed at the effect even a few minutes late each day can have over a longer time frame. So, with this in mind we are encouraging everyone to be at school by 8.55am ready to go!   

2027 Prep Enrolments

The Department of Education’s Enrolment Policy guarantees every eligible child a place at their designated neighbourhood school (school zone). To ensure priority placement is maintained, schools may be required to verify a child's permanent residential address for both in-zone and out-of-zone applications.

We are currently planning our Foundation (Prep) classes for 2027. While all in-zone families are guaranteed a place and may enrol beyond the Department’s advertised dates, we strongly encourage you to submit your enrolment as early as possible. Late enrolments may affect our ability to maintain reasonable class sizes.

Shortly, we will begin reviewing enrolment requests from families living just outside our school zone. These applications will be considered based on available space after in-zone enrolments are confirmed.

If you have not yet enrolled your child for 2027, I kindly ask that you do so as soon as possible.

Student-Led Conferences

Student-Led Conferences are an important part of the partnership between home and school. They provide students with the opportunity to share and celebrate their learning, reflect on their progress, and discuss their goals for future growth with their families.

This term, Student-Led Conferences will be held next week on Tuesday 28th July. During these conferences, students will guide the conversation, showcasing examples of their learning, reflecting on their achievements throughout Semester One, and sharing the goals they have set for Semester Two. Teachers will be present to support as needed.

Student-Led Conferences encourage students to take ownership of their learning while strengthening the partnership between home and school. They provide a valuable opportunity for families to celebrate achievements, gain a deeper understanding of their child's learning journey, and work together to support continued success.
