Principal`s Message

Welcome back to Term 4! I hope you all had a restful break and are ready for a vibrant and productive final term of the year.
Honour Boards: A Legacy of Local Education
Visitors to our school often inquire about the honour boards displayed near our conference room. Their origins have long been a source of curiosity, and after delving into our school archives, the story has become clear.
George Street School (School No. 0450) was established in 1855. Following the Education Act of 1872, the demand for new schools grew rapidly. In response, Napier Street School (School No. 2511) opened on 1 March 1883 with an initial enrolment of 438 students.
From 1893 to 1897, Napier Street operated as an adjunct to Bell Street School (School Number 111). The roles reversed in 1897, with Napier Street becoming the major partner until Bell Street School eventually closed in 1912. Napier Street School continued to serve the community until 1931, when it was closed and repurposed as the Correspondence School.
In 1932, students from Napier Street transferred to George Street School, bringing with them the honour boards that remain with us to this day, a proud reminder of our shared educational heritage.

Parent Teacher Interviews
A big thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our Parent-Teacher Interviews at the end of Term 3. These conversations are invaluable in strengthening the partnership between home and school, and in supporting each child’s learning journey.
SunSmart Reminder
Term 4 is our SunSmart term, and it’s been fantastic to see so many students wearing their hats during outdoor activities. A gentle reminder that we do not have spare hats at school, so please ensure your child brings a clearly named hat each day.
Attendance & Punctuality
Being on time matters! Arriving at school before the bell helps ensure a smooth start to the day and avoids disruptions to learning. We’re pleased to share that our overall attendance has improved from 85% in 2024 to 88% this year a fantastic step forward! Thank you to all families for your efforts in getting students to school consistently. Our goal is to continue this upward trend, with the state average currently sitting at 91%. Every day counts: students simply can’t learn if they’re not at school. Let’s keep working together to build strong attendance habits that support every child’s success.
2026 Class Placements
We will begin planning class placements for 2026 in early November. If you have any requests that you’d like us to consider, please contact the office by Thursday, 31st October. While we do not take requests for specific teachers, we will take all reasonable considerations into account — though we cannot guarantee all requests can be met.
2026 Enrolments & Departures
Our 2026 Foundation enrolments are nearly full! If you know of any families yet to enrol, please encourage them to contact the school as soon as possible. Likewise, if your family is planning to move on in 2026, please let the office know so we can plan accordingly.
Swimming Program
Our swimming program is coming up later this term. Please begin preparing your child with appropriate swimwear, including a towel and a named bag, so they can participate fully in this important and enjoyable activity.
Pupil Free Day
Just a reminder that Monday 3rd November ( Melbourne Cup Eve) is a pupil free day.
