Assistant Principal's report

Welcome to Term 4
We are continuing our work to ensure that all students, staff, and families feel safe, valued, and respected at EPS, and that we uphold our obligations under the Child Safe Standards. Our proactive approach to positive student behaviour and wellbeing has resulted in a reduction in both classroom and yard incidents. Visitors to our school, including Casual Relief Teachers, frequently comment on the kindness and high level of inclusion shown by our students.
We sincerely thank you for your ongoing support and for the respect you demonstrate towards the incredible professionals who choose to work at EPS.
Foodbank Breakfast Club
We are proud to be launching our Breakfast Club in Week 4. This initiative, supported by the Victorian Government and Foodbank Victoria, provides free, healthy breakfasts to students to ensure that no child starts the day hungry.
The Club will operate on Monday and Wednesday mornings. Please refer to Compass for information on how to book your child into this wonderful new initiative.
Anti-Racism Learning
Recent Attitudes to School Survey data indicated that some students have experienced racism in the past 12 months. In response, the Wellbeing Captains and I delivered an anti-racism lesson to the Year 4 students.
Together, we explored what racism is, developed a shared understanding of how we can stand against it, and discussed how racism can appear in everyday life, including in popular culture. For example, students analysed lyrics in rap songs and reflected on the impact that certain words and messages can have.
Changes to Student Digital Device Use in Primary Schools
From 2027, the Victorian Government will introduce changes to the use of digital devices for students in Prep to Year 6.
What This Means for EPS
EPS will cease its current BYOD program for Year 2 beginning in 2026. Students already participating in the BYOD program prior to 2026 may continue to bring their devices to school; however, we will align with the new recommended usage times.
Students with disability who require a digital device as a reasonable adjustment are exempt from these changes.
Each government school will determine how digital device access will be funded and implemented moving forward.

Looking Ahead
We are looking forward to another positive and productive term filled with rich learning experiences, strong connections, and continued growth for our students. Thank you for your partnership in making EPS a safe, inclusive, and inspiring place to learn and grow.
