Celebration of our Social & Emotional Pathways Program (SEP)

Celebration of our Social & Emotional Pathways Program (SEP)

In 2025, the College continued to evolve our Social & Emotional Pathways Program (SEP) to further increase student engagement in this rich and valuable program.

Each Year level has a clearly defined purpose, with links into our broader goal of the program which is:

‘To develop future-focused students who have an active engagement with the political, social, economic and environmental global landscape, now and into the future. To support students to think critically, ethically and to actively engage as young citizens in their community.’

The changes to our program in 2025 have been reflected in an increased attendance in all classes, across all year levels. These attendance levels in the SEP classes are now equal to attendance in all our other subjects. Pleasingly, our Year 9 LEAD program, and Year 10 Future Ready Program, has had the greatest increase in attendance with 16% increase and 15% increase, respectively.

Our Year7 Launch students actively participated in the Peer Support sessions to build connections to their peers. Both our Year 7 Launch & Year 8 Launch students started to develop their study skills and habits in the Learn2Learn Program. This term, students have been completing rich lessons within our Respectful Relationships sessions, including learning how to be a good friend, and ways of showing empathy.

Our Passion Project curriculum has a clear path from Year 7 to Year 9.

In Year 7, students learn the enquiry skills required to achieve success. By Year 8, students created a poster or video ‘pitch’ about what areas of the school they would like to improve, or social issues they would like to advocate for. This culminated into Year 9 LEAD where students chose their own Passion Project and worked on this for a semester. Some projects that students developed were redesigning our school sports uniform, increasing awareness of people who are homeless, improving accessibility to sporting venues, and creating a piece of art for the school.

In the second semester, students completed their LEAD City Experience project where they created their own inquiry questions about how to make Melbourne CBD more safe, resilient and sustainable. We have shared some videos in this post.

Our Year 10 Future Ready class has involved delivery of VCE Industry and Enterprise Unit 1 to assist students to get ready for the workplace and work experience. The majority of students have received a VCE unit if they have completed and submitted work to an expected standard. The second unit was life skill and study skill focused to prepare for VCE.

We have sought feedback from students to build on the program for next year. Items like Roadsmart, Anti Gambling presentations and exam study skills were highlights from the semester.

VCE and ME at year 11 had plenty of presenters over the year to help students build skills for their final year of schooling. Presentations covered sleep hygiene, mental fitness and revision skills for exams. Students had time in class to practice study skills like the pomodoro technique and to work with their House Leaders on time management and organisation.

Year 12 Secrets to Success program at La Trobe Uni at the beginning of the year was continued with alumni speakers throughout the year and VTAC presentations towards Term 4. We reviewed our program for 2026 and it will be a jam packed program at the beginning of the year.
