LITERACY

This term we will continue to use an evidence-based approach to our Literacy learning. Our Literacy Block will continue to consist of reinforcing the core literacy skills which include, fluency, phonological awareness, heart words (irregular spelling patterns), handwriting and the Sounds Write Phonics Program.  

We will be using Ochre for our Literacy program this term, preparing them for Grade 1 and diving deeper into some fantastic texts full of rich vocabulary and brilliant stories. 

In Phonics, we've now covered the common sound for all of the letters of the alphabet and spent Term 3 practising reading words with 3, 4, and 5 letter sounds! The students have done an incredible job strengthening their blending skills and we are very impressed with the reading! Thank you for all of your efforts setting up reading routines at home and supporting the students by making sure their reader bags are coming to school every day. In Term 4, we'll be introducing sounds that are represented by two letters (digraphs) such as, sh, th, wh, ck, ch and ng.
