A Spotlight on Learning

A Spotlight on Learning in the FLC on Heights Campus
Welcome to Term 4!
What a wonderful start to the term the Foundation students have had. They have all returned to school with positive attitudes and a readiness to learn. It has been fantastic to see how confidently they have settled back into classroom routines and expectations. Their enthusiasm for learning has made for a smooth and exciting beginning to the final term of the year.
There is much anticipation and excitement amongst the students as we prepare for our upcoming excursion to Chesterfield Farm on Wednesday 22nd of October. In preparation for this exciting day, the students have been learning about farms and brainstorming the types of animals they are likely to see, as well as exploring the habitats that different animals need to live and thrive.
This learning has been extended into our reading and writing lessons through our exploration of non-fiction texts. Students have been learning to decode words and gather information from factual books. It has been wonderful to see them confidently applying their growing knowledge of high-frequency words to support both their reading and writing.
The students have also continued to benefit greatly from our daily phonics lessons, where they are explicitly learning to blend letter sounds. Their confidence has noticeably increased, and it is wonderful to see them independently decoding new words with success.
In Mathematics, our focus has been on subtraction. The students have shown great confidence when solving subtraction problems using the counting back strategy and vertical recording. Their growing number sense and enthusiasm for problem-solving have been a joy to observe.
