Specialist Learning Overviews Term 4

Library - Term 4

This term in the library, our focus continues to be on nurturing a love of reading and encouraging students to explore both fiction and nonfiction books.

When reading fiction, students will be encouraged to journey into imaginative worlds, deepen their understanding of feelings and emotions, and build vocabulary and comprehension skills.

Equally important is our commitment to nonfiction texts, which open doors to the ‘real world’. These books will help students grow their research skills and expand their knowledge about the world around them.

PREPS & YEAR 1s

Our youngest musicians will focus on learning the songs and simple movement sequences for the Christmas musical. We’ll explore steady beat, singing in tune, and expressing character through voice and action. Students will also begin to understand what it means to perform as part of an ensemble.

YEAR 2

This term, our Year 2 students will continue developing their singing and percussion skills while exploring beat, rhythm, and performing as an ensemble. They are also preparing for the Christmas musical, practicing their song and dance moves. It promises to be a joyful and engaging term filled with music and festive fun!

YEAR 3

This term, our Year 3 students will continue developing their recorder compositions and learning new songs to strengthen their playing skills. In addition to their recorder work, students will also be preparing for the upcoming Christmas musical, where they’ll have the chance to shine on stage and celebrate the festive season through performance. It’s set to be a fun and rewarding term filled with creativity, teamwork, and musical growth!

YEAR 4

In addition to preparing their performance for the Christmas musical, Year 4 students will be fine-tuning their ukulele skills as they take part in our Ukulele Battle of the Bands! They’ll work in small groups to rehearse and perform a chosen piece, developing confidence, ensemble awareness and performance flair. Students will focus on strumming patterns, chord transitions and playing together in time.

YEAR 5

Year 5 students will be putting the finishing touches on their video game music compositions, which they’ve been developing using digital tools. They’ll present their final pieces this term, showcasing how melody, rhythm and texture can create atmosphere and emotion in gaming. Students will also support the Christmas musical through ensemble singing and behind-the-scenes contributions.

Year 1

Students will have the opportunity to create and sequence simple sets of coding blocks to control characters and events. They will design and animate digital stories or games using sprites, backgrounds, and recorded sounds.

Year 2

Students will have the opportunity to program a robot called Dash. They will learn block-based programming using apps like Blockly, building a strong foundation in sequencing, loops, events and functions.

Year 3

Students will have the opportunity to use block-based coding to program a robot to move, draw, and interact with its environment. They will explore sequencing, loops, and event triggers to create more complex programs. Moreover, students will apply problem-solving and debugging strategies to correct errors in their codes.

Year 4

Students will have the opportunity to design and build their own interactive video games using block-based coding. Through Gamefroot, students become digital creators — developing skills in problem-solving, algorithmic thinking, and user interface design.
