OSHC Holiday Care
Our Holiday Care program was bursting with creativity, energy and fun. Children danced at the Silent Disco, splashed at the Clarence Pool and cooked up treats on Master Chef Day. They enjoyed pancakes and park play, built and painted their own toolboxes, and got creative on Create and Rotate day with bath bombs, Lego and nail art.
A major highlight was our Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary excursion, where children met echidnas, wombats and kangaroos, showing curiosity and care for our native animals. The week finished with a lively Cube Sports Dance session that had everyone moving and smiling. It was wonderful to see friendships, confidence and independence grow throughout the week.
Year 2
Year 2 students had the privilege of welcoming Gwen Harper, known as 'Garbage Gwen,' from Just Shrink Waste. Students enthusiastically engaged in waste sorting activities and developed strategies for improving waste management both at school and home. They also examined compost made from FOGO materials. Our school received a comprehensive educational toolkit containing resources for Years 1-6, which will support our ongoing sustainability education through quality materials and structured lesson plans.
Year 6
Congratulations to the large number of Year 6 students who took part in the Hobart Children’s Mayor Writing Competition this year. The enthusiasm, creativity, and thoughtfulness shown across all entries reflected a deep care for our city and its future.
With so many high-quality submissions, it was extremely difficult for the Year 6 teaching staff to narrow the entries down. From these submissions, two were chosen to be put forward for official judging by the Mayor’s Office, and we are especially proud to share that both received recognition for their creativity and civic-minded ideas.
Bella Seeber- Peattie’s proposal focused on making Hobart’s alleyways safer and more appealing, with ideas such as improved lighting, colourful murals, and native plantings to create welcoming community spaces.
Ellie Huxtable’s proposal was selected as Deputy Mayor for the Day, impressing the judging panel with a creative concept for an interactive scavenger hunt app that encourages people to explore Hobart’s history, art, and hidden treasures through technology and play.
Both students were invited to Hobart Town Hall to share their ideas, enjoy morning tea with the Lord Mayor, and experience a behind-the-scenes look at how local government works. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to see how young voices can influence real change in the community.
