The Early Childhood Australia National Conference

Attending the 2025 Early Childhood Australia National Conference was an absolute highlight of my career. I was fortunate to represent Tasmania this year as one of only four educators selected from across the state to receive a Department of Education scholarship. An experience that really reminded me how lucky I am to work in such a meaningful profession alongside such a passionate and dedicated team here at Mount Carmel College Early Learning Centre.

The ECA National Conference was more than professional learning, it was a call to action. It reignited my belief that our role as early childhood educators is both deeply relational and powerfully transformative. The ideas and reflections I’ve brought home will help shape our ongoing journey at Mount Carmel College ELC, from deepening our connections with Country and community, to strengthening reflective practice and ensuring every child’s voice and right is at the heart of all we do.
Most importantly, the conference reminded me that quality early learning is built on trust in children, in each other and in the process of growth itself. When we nurture curiosity, connection and compassion we’re not just preparing children for the future we’re helping them flourish in the present

On Monday 13 October, the Mount Carmel College teaching staff took part in Catholic Education Tasmania's 'All System Day' of professional learning.
The focus for the day was on applying knowledge from previous sessions directly into our teaching and learning plans. We were excited to hear from two prominent guest speakers: Dr. Simon Breakspear, a globally recognised expert in educational leadership and school improvement, and Dr. Nathaniel Swain, a teacher, instructional coach and writer.
Staff spent the day diving into the principles of the Science of Learning and high-impact teaching practices. This work is crucial as it helps us ensure students achieve a deep and meaningful understanding of core knowledge and skills. A significant part of the day was exploring authentic ways to provide students with opportunities to demonstrate, transfer and apply the knowledge and skills they gain in the classroom.
It was a highly informative and productive day, equipping staff with practical strategies to further enhance the learning experience for all Mount Carmel College students.
