Canteen News
We are thrilled to announce that the College Canteen, which supplies both primary and secondary students, has recently been award Silver accreditation through the SmartFood Program.
The aim of the SmartFood Program is to give children access to nutritious and delicious food while at school, which is essential to their overall health, wellbeing, and learning. The Program supports schools in providing a best practice model for food service management around policy, menu, food safety and a whole school approach to eating well.
Our Canteen operates five days a week serving at both recess and lunch and is managed by the fantastic Mahesh BK, who produces so many of the items on the menu from scratch. Mahesh also cooks and prepares our Breakfast menu, which is available five days a week.
In order to keep our canteen running at its best, we rely on the generous support of volunteers from our College community. Volunteering in our canteen provides a wonderful opportunity to be part of your child’s school life and get to know the staff and students your child shares so much of their time with.
We welcome mums, dads, grandparents, carers etc. Unfortunately toddlers/children are not permitted in the Canteen due to health & safety regulations. To ensure the safety of our students, volunteers are required to present a current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) check to the College Office.
You may wish to volunteer once a week, once a month or once a term. Any amount of time you give us is a valuable resource for the College and is sincerely appreciated. No experience is necessary. You will be guided through the preparation of lunches and the serving of over-the-counter purchases.
If you would like to be part of the Canteen team, please use the sign up via this link. Full information, including the registration process, on volunteering at Mount Carmel College is available on the Volunteering page of our website.
