Principal's Report
Simone Roy
As happens every year, our time with our Year 12s is very quickly coming to an end, with this week being the last full week of classes for these students. Next Tuesday is the last official day for Year 12s and after that, they begin a week of SWOT Vac or completing outstanding work, followed by the end of year exams for those sitting them.
I am sure that all students will be pleased once they get to the end of their official schooling, after 13 years, but this time may also have some sadness attached. It is the ‘end of an era’, signalling a new beginning, or next steps. Hopefully their time at school has prepared them well for what lies ahead, and they can see the importance of spreading their wings beyond school.
Congratulations to Tyrone Raw, who is not only getting married soon, but has been offered an exciting opportunity to try a new career, as the new manager of the Dederang Hotel.
Tyrone started his work at school in Term 4 last year, taking on the role of the Student Support Mentor through the National Student Wellbeing Program funding, provided by the Australian Government as a contribution to the wellbeing of school communities. He then increased his time at work by also working as an In Class Support ES staff member. Ty has been a welcome addition to our staff team, running activities at lunchtime and managing the Student Executive. Ty will be finishing work at the end of Week 3 this term and we wish him all the best in his new role and partnership with Bianca.
Accessibility works and toilet upgrades
Managing the ‘lack’ of toilets seems to be going quite smoothly, with few times that there is any kind of queue to wait. We also have systems in place to prevent students having to wait for a toilet to use. Thank you to those that have alerted the school to any problems thus far (real or perceived). Please make sure you contact the school if your child has any concerns about this situation, so we can work through any problems and ensure there is a suitable process in place to help support them.
Disappointingly, some active termites were found in the female toilets, which have had to be addressed and may delay the works a bit while treatment is organised. Luckily, they were found before they munched through too much of the school!
