An unprecedented number of students will represent our school at next week's Region Athletics. Every single student battled so hard at the Divisions held in Week 1, many achieving PBs in their events at the Division Athletics in Week 1.  We are very proud of each of our 12 competitors and were even more proud to hear of their sportsmanship and support for each other as a school group.  Thank you to the parents for their help in gtransporting, supervising and encouraging the students on the day.

Next Wednesday's SOUTH METRO REGION ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS, the final step before State Qualification, will see five of our students progress and we wish them the best of luck in their quest!

Region Athletics Championships will be next Wednesday, 22nd October at Casey Athletics Centre for:

Dallas

Maggie

Isabella

Mabel

GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE, AT REGIONS ON WEDNESDAY!  WHAT SUPER ATHLETES, YOU ARE!

DIVISION GIRLS VOLLEYBALL WERE SUPERB!

Amidst the large prestigious schools, our Year 6 Gorls from St Joseph's had trained and prepared well for this event since they were the victors of the District Event back in Term 1.  Rallied by school captain, Zara H, the girls committed to weekly trainings of their own accord and all 8 girls, Zara H, Bella, Mabel, Maisy, Evie H, Indie, Harriet and Edith, performed with excellent skill and athleticism, winning every match in the rounds and were confident going into the Grandfinal against Peninsula Grammar.  After losing the first set and then winning the second, Mrs Barber said it was a nailbiting finish, with the shorter third set only going to 10 points and our girls going down by only two points.  We are so proud of their effort, commitment and achievement and this will provide a great memory for them to share in the future as they look back at their time at St Joeys.

We were also by far the best-dressed team, with all teams required to have numbered tops.

SENIOR SCHOOL SWIMMING CONTINUES NEXT WEEK FOR ALL STUDENTS IN YEAR 5/ 6!

Gallery Image

We are off to a great start with our Senior Swimming Program, held at Yawa and facilitated by our St Joseph's Swimming Teachers.  Please ensure you are send along labelled goggles, as well as all swimming bathers, drink bottles, towels and a swim cap (if you have one) that your child will use during these lessons.

SWIMMING IS A COMPULSORY PART OF THE PE PROGRAM which is reported on and all students are expected to participate unless they are deemed unfit to swim.  As this will be reflected in their overall achievement in the Physical Education Report at the end of year, it was great to see so many students giving it their all, many students showing that they needed to be moved up more than one level.  We have always been a very strong swimming school in terms of swimming competencies and this is largely due to the strong commmitment displayed by students (and supported by their parents), individualised swimming plans for students' abilities, extra-curricular Swim Squad opportunities and the maximum effort always demonstrated by our students.

Next Wednesday, 29th October, students in Year 6 will also be tested on their Victorian Water Safety Certificate (a State Premier's Challenge for all students to achieve during their time at Primary School) with both in-water swimming and survival competencies, as well as in-classroom water safety knowledge and lifesaving techniques.  Additional swimming competency and water safety and survival requirements will be tested on the final day of swimming for both Year 5 & 6 students on Wed 5th November.

If it is likely that your child will be absent for a lesson, it is important to notify me in advance via email, so that we maytry to test your child at an earlier lesson.

Warm Regards,

Jenny Todd
