Junior School Update

What a fantastic start to the year we’ve had in Junior School! It has been wonderful to see students settling in so well, embracing new routines, and approaching their learning with enthusiasm.

A special thank you to our School Captains, and many of our Year 6 students, who have done a fantastic job supporting and welcoming our new Preps. Their kindness and leadership have helped our youngest students feel at home.

It has also been heartening to see students across all year levels looking out for new classmates, ensuring they feel included and part of our King’s community. As we begin this year together, we pray that God will continue to guide and bless our students, staff, and families.

Prep

The Preps have had a great start to the school year. Although it was hot on Monday, we stayed cool with some Zooper Doopers in the afternoon. We have loved listening to stories, using our new pencils and crayons, and practicing numbers on the number whiteboards!

Year 1

What an incredible start to the year for our Year 1 students! They’ve hit the ground running with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a whole lot of excitement. From the moment they stepped into the classroom, their energy has been contagious!

This week our learners have been exploring numbers, practicing their reading and spelling skills, and developing their writing abilities. Their faces light up as they take on each new challenge, whether it is counting up to 100 or diving into a brand new storybook.

Beyond the academics, the Year 1 students have already begun building strong friendships and developing important social skills. Whether it’s working together on group activities or learning to share and take turns, they’re growing into confident and kind individuals.

We are so proud of how they’ve started the year, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing things they’ll accomplish over the coming months. It’s shaping up to be an exciting year ahead in Year 1.

Year 2

Welcome to 2025! Our new Year 2's have had a great first week back at school as we have begun introducing the exciting topics for this term and learning our new routines.

Last Friday, the Year 2's had their first experience using the laptops! We practised logging in, typing and even created our own cartoon characters!

Students have shared and reflected on their summer holidays, and painted beautiful artworks of their favourite part of the holidays. We have also been looking at describing words and how they could describe the holiday events.

We're looking forward to a great term with lots of exciting learning opportunities!

Year 3

Year 3's have got off to a wonderful start! We have been enjoying getting to know each other and setting up our classroom together, establishing routines and getting ready for the year ahead.

We have loved learning about our brains and what it means to have a growth mindset. We have also been exploring how to ensure we are switched on for learning and about regulating our emotions with the help of tools such as brain breaks and brain gym and each other.

We are looking forward to a fantastic year together, having lots of fun and learning loads of new things.

Year 4

Last Friday, some of our Year 3 students, along with all of our Year 4 students, visited AquaZone to kick off their preparation for the upcoming Swimming Carnival. The session gave students a chance to sharpen their swimming skills, build confidence and bond with their classmates ahead of the big event.

A huge thank you goes out to our fantastic staff – Mr Wakim, Mrs Newton, Mrs Gittins, Miss Johnson, Mr Raven, and Mr Haworth – whose support and enthusiasm helped make the day a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone. Their efforts ensured that all students had a great time while learning new techniques and strategies for the carnival.

We can’t wait to see all the hard work and preparation pay off when the Swimming Carnival arrives next week.

Junior Gideon Program

It's been really nice getting to know our students in the Gideon 4-6 program this week.  We have been busy finding out what we all know, establishing routines and creating realistic expectations for learning this year. It sounds like everyone had a great Summer break and are now ready to get into the term. I look forward to giving you further fortnightly updates later this term.
