PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging. As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways. We at Moorabbin Primary School appreciate this land. Thank you.
Dear Parents/Carers,
ANOTHER GREAT WEEK AT MPS!
We are thrilled to see our students off to such a great start this year! The energy and enthusiasm in our classrooms and playground have been wonderful to see. A special congratulations to our Foundation students, who have settled in beautifully during their first week of school. They have embraced new routines, made new friends, and shown incredible resilience and excitement for learning. We have had some fantastic feedback in the first week of our routines.
STAFFING UPDATE – PREGNANCY NEWS FOR MS HOWDEN
We are thrilled to inform our community that Ms Howden and her husband are pregnant and expecting their second child. Ms Howden is due later on this year. Wonderful news and we look forward to watching her baby bump grow. A Huge congratulations to Ms Howden, please take time to wish her well when you see her around the school.
GENERAL REMINDERS
A few gentle reminders for the first term of school…
For the month of February until the week of the 23rd February, students in Foundation attend school during normal school hours, except on Wednesdays when they do not attend school. This time is used by our foundation teachers to conduct interviews and gather initial assessments and important information which will assist student learning for the remainder of the term.
ANAPHYLAXIS AND FOOD SAFETY
We take student and staff safety extremely seriously. We have several children and staff who are severely and life threateningly allergic to certain foods. Whilst we don’t ban anything in lunchboxes, we do urge you to consider that at this age, children are not able to fathom the extreme consequences of sharing food or not washing their hands properly. Please ensure you speak to your own child about food safety and make informed and confident choices when packing lunchboxes. Any food bought in to share for celebrations etc must have a list of ingredients so that we can keep everyone safe!
CLOTHING, HATS, FOOTWEAR AND SPARES
Please make sure your child is wearing closed footwear! This is important because we are often building, creating, gardening and playing outside. It’s imperative they have the right shoes, as we are always looking out for their safety!
We are a sun smart school, hats need to be worn – wide brimmed hats only please, caps don’t count!
NAME EVERYTHING PLEASE. This way we can return items that have a clearly labelled name.
Sunscreen can only be applied by the child as teachers are not allowed to put it on them! All classes have a generic brand and we can’t always guarantee that the ingredients will be compatible with your child’s skin sensitivities.
Finally, accidents can and do happen, please pack spare undies, socks and shorts! Just in case. For our little ones that may have an accident, the office will call you immediately.
TOYS, SPECIAL ITEMS AND EXPENSIVE BELONGINGS AT SCHOOL
We don’t encourage children to bring these items to school as we can’t promise they will be kept safe! We encourage all children to be responsible for looking after items from home, especially if they take them out to play. We appreciate some students need specific items as a support for certain worries/ anxieties. Please have a discussion with your child’s teacher about this requirement so that the item does not end up being a distraction for your child’s learning.
