Humanities – Spotlight on Civics and Citizenship
The Humanities curriculum is comprised of four disciplines which are Civics and Citizenship, History, Geography and Economics and Business. During Term 1 our Years 7 to 9 classes are studying Civics and Citizenship. Civics and Citizenship focuses on empowering students to become active and informed participants in Australia’s democracy and explores citizenship, diversity and identity within Australian society.
Our Year 7's have been learning about Australian identity and values and exploring what values are important to them. We are in the process of creating our Vocabulary Word Wall, using anchor charts to support our learning. You can see some examples of these below.
Our Year 8's have been focusing on the Australian Legal System and our Year 9's have been exploring the court system. The skills our students are learning in Civics and Citizenship create a pathway for our students into Legal Studies at Years 10, 11 and 12.
Our Year 10 Legal Studies class has been focused on learning how to identify and use task words when writing responses and are currently looking at the Mabo case. In Term 2 we will be moving onto History.
