From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends,

Learning is now well and truly underway at LPS with our Head Start program completed and all students, including preps, now attending full-time. Our grade 3-6 students have been particularly engaged in their Literature Units and I encourage you to read Kristine Roose's report about this on the Learning and Teaching page.

I am very proud of the way our students and staff are adjusting to the implementation of some of our new programs. It is also rewarding that we are being recognised outside of the LPS boundary. So far this term we have had 2 schools visit to look at our Word Work sessions due to our consistent and effective implementation. This is a credit to the staff for their hard work and also to the students for being active and engaged participants. Well done everyone!

KINDER

Things are ticking along in the background regarding our new kinder. The works are scheduled to start during term 2, however I do not have a set start date as yet. The Victorian School's Building Authority are currently working with the architects to appoint a builder, shortly after that I hope to be able to give families a more accurate timeline.

The key components of this build for our school are:

  • relocation of the portable
  • relocation of a playground
  • access to the school grounds for our families

We will continue to advocate for our current students and families, ensuring the new kinder doesn't have an undue detrimental effect on our operations, including student learning.

RAMPS UPGRADE

In the coming months, significant work will be going on around our school to ensure that our ramps and entranceways meet the new standards relating to slope, width and trips. This work is being funded by the Department of Education outside of our regular school budget.

There are 3 large components to this work at Lysterfield Primary School:

  • The front steps and ramps
  • The entrance near the STEM room
  • The large wooden ramp at the back of the school

In all cases, the current infrastructure needs to be removed and replaced. We are working with the contractors to ensure that the disruption to staff, students and families is minimalised and we thank you for your patience while the work is completed.

Works are due to commence on 05/03/25 and continue for 10 weeks, finishing around 12/05/25.

SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTION

I would like to congratulate and thank Nathan Abrahams for his successful nomination for the Lysterfield Primary School Council. Nathan has been a member of the school council since March 2021, and more recently has been the Vice President. We are thankful that Nathan is continuing in his role.

PFA COMMITTEE

Recently our Parents and Friends Committee held their AGM and elected new office bearers. I want to thank and congratulate the following people:

President - Bella Robinson & Ellice Hutchinson

Secretary - Suzie Preston

Treasurer - Ellen Dimstas

I also wish to thank the other 16 very keen and helpful parents who have put themselves forward to join the committee.  There is always room for more helpers on the PFA so if you want to join the crew please email: lysterfieldpa@gmail.com

I would also like to acknowledge and thank the outgoing office bearers and committee members. I particularly wish to thank Mel Cavanagh for her hard work as president and Catherine Moroney as secretary. These are big jobs that take a lot of time and our school is better off for your efforts, thank you.

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY – “Women Who Inspire Us”

As part of our school’s celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8), we invite students, staff, and families to take part in our “Women Who Inspire Us” Digital Showcase!

This is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the amazing women who have made a difference in our lives—whether they are family members, historical figures, community leaders, or even fictional role models.

We encourage you to contribute by sharing a short message about a woman who inspires you. Submissions can be added to our special online Padlet board, which will be shared with our school community.

How to Participate:

✅ Click here to access our “Women Who Inspire Us” Padlet: Women Who Inspire Us – Our LPS International Women's Day Celebration

✅ Share a short message about a woman who inspires you.

✅ Add your name (or just “A Proud Student/Parent/Staff Member” if you prefer).

✅ Feel free to include family members, friends, teachers, Education Support staff, well-known figures, or anyone who has made an impact.

We will be showcasing some of the submissions on our school’s Facebook page as part of our International Women’s Day celebrations. Let’s come together as a community to celebrate the achievements, strength, and contributions of inspiring women!

Thank you for your participation—we can’t wait to see your stories!

We look forward to celebrating the men in our lives later this year.

Have a great weekend!
