Being the Light: Catholic Social Teaching
This Jubilee Year, where we are called to be 'Pilgrims of Hope', we are reminded of our call as Catholics to be the light of Christ to others.
Based on Catholic Social Teaching, our mission extends to our local community, where we are called to uphold human dignity, promote justice, and extend mercy.
Catholic Social Teaching is built on principles such as the dignity of the human person, the common good, solidarity, and a preferential option for the poor. These values challenge us to take action—not just in words, but in deeds.
Through acts of kindness in our neighborhoods, we are called to shine God’s love in every corner of society.
At a time when many are struggling—our faith reminds us that we cannot turn away. Instead, we must step forward, responding with compassion and a commitment to building a more just and loving world. Each of us has a role to play in bringing Christ’s light into the darkness, whether through service, prayer, or standing up for those in need.
By living out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, we fulfill our mission as disciples—spreading hope, fostering peace, and illuminating the path of love in both our local and global communities.
Social Justice Academy
A group of students within the school chose to participate in the Social Justice Academy, enacting some of these Catholic Social Teaching Principles. They have been spreading joy and kindness in the local community, having visited our local Kindergarten, Goodstart over the past couple of weeks.
We are also partnering with our local nursing home, Chestnut Gardens, where students will have the opportunity to visit and connect with the elderly residents in our community, a little later in the term.
