What is leadership from a Catholic Perspective

Jesus provided to the world a model of leadership not seen at the time. His world was focused on power and status. It was a hierarchy, with little ability to change your lot in life. our last Gospel readings challenged us not to judge, but to accept. Jesus provided a model of service, or servant leadership. He went to those people that society may have felt were least deserving, he built connection and gave them hope. This style of leadership should be what we aspire to, and although it is difficult, and may not win immediate rewards, it often is remembered fondly as people look back. As we age, we do not remember every thing that someone said to us, or what they did for us, but we do remember how they made us feel. Those around Jesus who required the most support, would have felt him reach out to them and made them feel seen. Who can we reach out that may need it to make them feel seen?

Student Leaders:

We were so proud of our Year 6 students who put up their hand to become student leaders. Our students have worked with Mrs Hudson, to advise myself and the leadership team as to how they believe we should structure our student leaders at Holy Family. Previously, every student was given a badge, however, many students expressed they did not want to be a leader, or found it hard to manage.

Our students created role descriptions. They then applied for the position they wanted. 9 students out of 17 applied for School Captain and each student did an amazing job with their one minute speech. I was so proud as a Principal. In the end, the students from Year 5 and 6 elected Anastacia and Falito as their School Captains. We then elected Vice Captains to support Ana and Falito, with Ella P and Jane being elected. Our Wellbeing Leaders had 5 applications with Reshan and Wicktoria being elected. Our Faith Leader will be Amira, our Breakfast Club Manager will be Devika and we still have to fill our Facilities Manager. These roles came out of the students saying that some people want to do jobs, be responsible for something, whilst not having to lead and speak in front of people. Congratulations to these students and to all the students who took the voting very seriously. We will present these students to the community in the near future.

Parent Teacher Interviews

On the 6th of March, we will have our Parent Teacher Interviews. This will be a chance for you and the teacher to co-construct goals for your child. Signing up to these will be available early next week.

Working Bee

Next week, on Thursday at 3:30pm we have our Working Bee. The Garden will be a big shared community project this year, where families can come and help the children garden and cook. More information about an exciting project to come, but we do need some work done to prepare. It would be great to see a lot of families attend.

BIG EVENT - SAVE THE DATE:  We have just secured Dr Billy Garvey, who is a top selling author and runs a leading parenting podcast, Pop Culture Parenting. Billy is a leading pediatrician at the Royal Children's Hospital and is respected around the world for his ability to provide parents with practical evidence based tips to support children. This is an event not to be missed. We will be making it a celebration of our school as well. This event will be on Monday the 17th of March, after school, with more information to come.
