Year 7 Camp

On the 13 February, us, the new Year 7s who have just joined the community, went on camp to Mylor Adventure Camp run by Baptist Care SA.

What was meant to be a three-day, two-night adventure at Mylor quickly became an experience none of us will forget, although not for the reasons we expected!

The anticipation for camp was high: canoeing, low ropes, archery, giant swing, raft making, challenge course and of course, late-night cabin chats. But the first hiccup came when a heatwave forced us to delay our trip by a day.

Disappointed but still eager, we finally arrived, ready to make the most of our time there.

Despite the shortened schedule, we jumped right into activities. Low ropes tested our balance, canoeing had us navigating the water (and maybe a few unplanned splashes), and archery tag turned into an all-out battle. While raft making had our innovative brains working, the giant swing was a true test of courage and the challenge course was a challenge.

Just when it seemed like we were settling in and enjoying ourselves fully, the news hit: a grass fire nearby meant we had to evacuate. Just like that, our long-awaited camp was over before it had really begun.

Reactions ranged from shock to laughter—what else could we do but joke about our record-breaking shortest camp ever?

Some of us tried to convince the teachers to turn the bus around (no luck there). Others reminisced about the few activities we did manage to complete. It wasn’t the camp we had in mind, but at least we made the most of our time together.

First Things First Coffee Visit

We were delighted to have Aaron Box and James Carrigg, the entrepreneurs behind First Things First Coffee, come and speak to the Year 11 Business Innovation class. As we have a smaller class this semester, we sat around the table together and had an engaging conversation about their business.

They walked us through their entrepreneurial journey; from First Things First's humble beginnings to becoming an integral part of our coffee culture.

The Year 11 students gained a deeper understanding of the commitment and sacrifices entrepreneurs face in establishing a business, along with the importance of different business functions, such as operations, marketing and customer service, in growing your business. Armed with the knowledge that they have gained from this incursion, they are currently brainstorming and developing recommendations for the business, which will be sent to Aaron and James to review.
